On Mine Data Breach

Illness did strike at me upon the eve I would forsooth have addressed more of the foul rumors which flyeth as a result of mine House's recent data breach. Tis unfortunate, as I would have liked to get ahead of the situation, but fate hath made this not to be. Regardless, allowest me to address the three most prominent of these rumors in earnest:

The first of these regardeth mine House as a whole. Among the leaked documentation was a folder of rather old (older than I mine own self) financial records. Somehow, the information released hath sparked a rumor of 'tax fraud' among unpracticed analysts. On behalf of House Hurst, Jewel of Crossland, I must ensure the public that this is entirely false. The documents in question art ancient and not in their entirety. Baronic Tax collectors hath been invited to investigate themselves, and the matter will be resolved behind closed doors.

The second regardeth mine own self. Much of mine personal correspondence became compromised in the hours following the initial attack. Most was business inquiry, meeting logs, and general diplomacy from the last few years. But some of the hackers did steal data logs of a more... personal nature. Since their release I have received spam from what must be burners which mine rivals did produce, which useth words such as 'harlot' and 'strumpet.' To these spammers: I do verily ask thee to piss off. Thou behavest like children, truly; mine "DMs" - as I have heard them called - art a concern of mine and the women involved, none else.

Finally, the most serious matter, and the one I most regret mine delay in addressing. Several pieces of evidence - lack of correspondence and a mission report labelled "MIA" included - hath led many individuals upon the Omninet to draw the conclusion that mine dear sister is missing. For those ignorant, mine beloved baby sister, Rebecca Hurst, is a renowned Pankrati and Kavalier: among the most famous on Crossland, Callsign Viceroy. I do regret to inform the public that, while en route to a sortie some time ago now, she did, in fact, disappear. We do fear she was set upon by ne'er-do-wells of some description. HOWE'ER. We hath spared no expense in looking for her, and I have little fear. She will be home soon, safe and sound. This will, unfortunately, affecteth her participation in the House Games. We know this must doubtlessly dissapointeth her many loving fans, but we ask for thine support through this difficult time, regardless.

To the good people of the Omninet and to all of Baronic Space, I thank thee for thine time. I shall keep thee informed on the ongoing situation regarding mine dear sister, but otherwise am happy to have this hacking debacle behind me and behind mine House.

Yeah I was wrong.

The most frustrating thing about being a Helluva Boss enjoyer is explicitly stating multiple times that I like show and then get called an anti and homophobic and media illiterate when I complain about the direction it has taken.

I LIKE the comedy

I LIKE the animation and artstyle

I LIKE the more serious plotlines like the government agents plot and the Cherubs plot

I LIKE the themes of friendship and found family

I even like most of the songs!

And ofc the voice cast slays every time

But just because your show has angst and tears and drama and sad music doesn't automatically make it "good".

Just because your characters are queer doesn't automatically make them good or well written characters

This fandom is so frustrating to deal with when you want to express your more nuanced takes of it

This is probably gonna be the last post I make about this subject and about Helluva Boss in general, this shit is too stupid to deal with

i have a theory surrounding hae jo's biological father (spoilers ahead)

i think ko jae geun (candidate number 2) is his father - they were the most similar, in terms of mannerism and looks too: jae mi comments how similar they are in terms of them both being wanderers and not wanting to be tied down to one place. in the marketplace, one of the ladies comment that they look similar and have similar temperaments.

when hae jo gets the text with the paternity results, we don't get to see the results.

we see the results clearly with candidate 3

and with candidate 1 we see hae jo receive the text with the results

and while we don't get to see the results in this case as well, we see hae jo let go of his hand that he was holding on to

which makes us think that the results showed that he was not his biological father. i think the reason they kept the results of two dna tests ambiguous instead of just one to make it as somewhat of a misdirect (if that makes sense??)

we hear ko jae geun saying he had an illness some years back and had to undergo brain surgery multiple times which is probably the same illness that hae jo has (the doctor in episode 1 does say that the illness is hereditary) which feels like a dead giveaway that he is hae jo's biological father

after they realise he stole hae jo's money, hae jo gets the result of the paternity test which we don't get to see. but he looks somewhat defeated/disappointed/???

when hae jo goes to confront him about stealing his money, he hopes jae geun would apologise

he beats him up in the end not just because he stole his money but because he was disappointed that his biological father would end up hurting him that way too. we see him reminiscing on their short time together and hae jo asks jae geun why he did all of that if he was planning all along to con him. he seems genuinely hurt by jae geun's actions - which begs the question: why would a stranger conning you of your money hurt so much unless they meant something to you?

in the end, jae mi asks hae jo about the test results

hae jo's answer feels more like he's trying to comfort himself in denying the truth

it is also after this that he tells jae mi to leave and go her own way

which could allow us to deduce that he's trying to say that they've achieved the goal of their trip and she can now go back to her life the way he promised if he did end up finding his biological father

im probably stretching this very far lmao but towards the end of the show, hae jo tells jae mi that kkari told him that when you meet your biological parent, you just get a feeling of recognition

and this was hae jo's reaction to meeting ko jae geun

obviously i cant capture his emotions well in a screenshot but watch the scene and you can feel its different to when he met candidate number one

(okay okay i do admit that that last point is a proper stretch but i really believe in this whole theory lol)

in conclusion (lol) i think the reason why they kept it so ambiguous and didn't even explore the other candidates in depth is because that wasn't the point to his adventure. it's ironic that jae geun mocks hae jo and says "it's not like i haven't given you anything and just stole your money. you enjoyed these last couple of days and i did that for you. you'll never have a father like me in all your life." its ironic because throughout the show we see that hae jo already had a loving father when he was younger. jae geun's statement sort of hints that the meaning of the journey (of trying to find his sperm donor) was just to come to terms with the fact that he was yearning for his father chae yeong jo all along.

I love when media fully embraces how ludicrous some of its plot points are. a spy, a telepath, an assassin, and clairvoyant dog forming a happy upper class family together is an objectively insane concept, and we're all okay with that.

I know not all shows are SpyXFamily (Unfortunately.), but you get the point. Just commit to your shit. stop coming up with a million excuses as to why your weird thing is weird. Simply girl boss your way out of it. No one cares. Pop off.

i saw a post about another media i wasnt familiar with (i think it was in stars and time?) talking about the group's dynamic as like. it's found family but in a way that specifically rejects the traditional family roles- ie there doesn't have to be a "mom" and a "child" or any other named role for individual people, just their closeness is enough on its own to make them family. and i think that's how i feel about the rockafire a bit! like tbf i do think mitzi has a sibling-like relationship w beach bear and dook but that's kinda the only named relationship i feel even a bit strongly about lol. i feel like i can't think of any rae character without also thinking of how i like their dynamic with at least one other character, the way each character interacts with the others strengthens their own personality and i think thats super cool. i love those guys

Truly funny thing I thought of.

So okay imagine just like, a nothing-goes-wrong AU for MDZS. Maybe Lotus Pier still falls idk. But like, relatively untraumatized Yunmeng Siblings. Jiang Yanli isn't currently married or engaged to Jin Zixuan. Jiang Cheng is in charge of Lotus Pier but is much more relaxed and has support from his siblings. Wei Wuxian isn't extremely depressed and surrounded by darkness.

And there's Wei Wuxian thinking "My shijie deserves the best person in the entire world!" and then "Wait, you know who's the best person in the entire world? Lan Zhan! He's so good and perfect and pretty and handsome, he'd definitely make shijie happy! And I'd have an excuse to see him more often!"

And thus he begins his mission of getting his shijie and his Lan Zhan together. He invites him to Lotus Pier and tries to get them to spend time together but mostly shijie ends up third wheeling for her little brother's dates with the boy he obviously likes. He does tell her his idea at some point and she tries to talk him down from it a little, noticing how much he himself clearly likes this boy. Lan Wangji and Jiang Yanli get along well enough, but they are both fairly quiet people, so mostly they both end up affectionately watching Wei Wuxian being himself.

Eventually, after misunderstandings and shenanigans, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji do get together, and Jiang Yanli is delighted that her little brother finally got the boy he'd been chasing.

Presumably Jiang Cheng is watching this whole thing from the sidelines, completely baffled. Wei Wuxian tried to explain the whole plan to him but he hadn't understood why his goofy brother thought the Second Jade of Lan was so great. Also he was convinced that Lan Wangji would never agree to come to Lotus Pier. He was very confused when the guy actually showed up, and even seemed happy enough to be there. He decided to stay out of it.
